Why Now is the Perfect Time to Renew Your Passport

Passports are essential for traveling internationally. 

Here are 3 reasons why it's the perfect time to renew or apply for a new passport:

1. Passport processing times are now at their shortest in years, and with expected changes during the holidays, this is the ideal time to apply for a passport. The U.S. State Department has decreased processing times to 4-6 weeks for standard applications and 2-3 weeks for expedited service, marking it as the most efficient period in recent memory. 

2. Your passport or card can be used instead of a REAL ID compliant driver's license for domestic flights and entry into certain federal facilities. This is crucial because starting May 7, 2025, TSA and other federal agencies will not accept a standard driver's license or state ID for these activities. 

3. The online passport renewal process is intended to be simpler and more convenient for eligible applicants than the traditional mail-in method.

Numerous countries mandate that your passport be valid for six months after your intended travel dates, although some have shorter requirements. 

To find out the passport validity required for your destination, visit the U.S. Department of State's website at Travel.State.Gov and use the destination-specific information to check the entry requirements.

You should never let your passport expire or travel with your passport with 6 months or less because you could be turned away at the destination.
