RENEWING YOUR PASSPORT ONLINE JUST GOT EASIER

PASSPORT ONLINE RENEWAL UPDATE:

The State Department announced that due to the remarkable success of the pilot program for online passport renewals, they have decided to increase the daily number of applications they can process.

Previously, the State Department eliminated the time restrictions that limited public submissions to starting at 1pm EST. The portal would be closed once the agency reached its capacity, reopening the next day.

The online passport renewal process involves filling out a website form and making a payment using credit cards, debit cards, or online ACH transfers. It typically takes around 15 minutes to complete. You can apply by following this link: https://www.state.gov/

This will save applicants the time spent to the post office and mail delays.

Renewing your passport online does not expedite the delivery process. Regardless of the application method, you can expect to receive your new passport in 6-8 weeks. To receive it sooner, you must apply by mail and pay an additional $60 for expedited service.

To be eligible for the online system, travelers must be U.S. citizens and residents 25 and older who have already had a passport with 10-year validity, among other requirements.

Here are a few of the requirements:

▪️Applicants can’t request a change to their name, gender, date of birth or place of birth.

▪️Applicants cannot be traveling internationally for at least eight weeks from the day they submit their application.

▪️Applicants must be applying only for a regular passport, and they possess their current passport. (It can’t be lost, stolen, damaged or mutilated.)

▪️Applicants can pay with a credit card or debit card, and are able to upload a digital passport photo in the JPEG file format.
